Coverage will be offered regardless of policy stipulation
All the insurance companies in the country will fully cover policyholders that are being treated for coronavirus infection, said Elie Torbey Chairman of the Association of Insurance Companies (ACAL).
All insured will be covered whether the COVID-19 coronavirus is included in the insurance policy or not, Torbey said.
Insurance companies will settle the covered medical treatment costs to hospitals within three months, he said.
According to Torbey, the rate that hospitals are charging for treating COVID-19 patients is exorbitant and exceeds the first class tariff agreed upon between them and insurance companies. He said that ACAL rejects this tariff which should be rather based on that of the National Social Security Fund.
He said international pandemics are usually the responsibility of governments because no company whether local or international can face them.
In the last week of March, the Insurance Control Commission published a list of insurance companies that showed which ones provide coverage for the coronavirus.
