CORONAVIRUS update for travel and healthcare insurance products

Published on: 16/03/2020

COVID-19, the disease caused by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus is a known and rapidly evolving epidemic that is affecting travel worldwide, with continued spread and impacts expected. On January 30th, 2020, the World Health Organization declared Coronavirus/COVID-19 a public health emergency of international concern, and in early February the WHO recognized it as an epidemic. On February 24th the WHO confirmed that there are now multiple epidemics in different parts of the world. On March 11th, the WHO finally declared the situation a pandemic.

However, until further notice, travel and healthcare insurance products do not cover losses arising from epidemics or pandemics as per the Exclusions mentioned in Policy Wordings. It is very important that you read the EXCLUSIONS of Policy Wordings carefully and make sure you understand exactly “what is covered” and “what is not covered”, and what to do if you need to claim.

We strongly recommend that you get information about the situation in your travel destination before you purchase any travel insurance policies.

You should also monitor official updates regarding the Coronavirus through The World Health Organization to be informed on the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) worldwide.
